Let's dive into the aquatic world of Florence Bonnot
A voyage at sea, what do you say?
It has been 30 years since Florence Bonnot left France to come and live on the island of beautiful waters: Guadeloupe. There, she tied a deep love for the ocean, a common thread of precious memories of lost beings. Through his brushes, the artist plunges us into a colourful, poetic and aquatic universe.
- How did you start painting? What do you like about this art?
"I have been painting for a long time, since I was little. We were four sisters who loved drawing and painting. We spent a large part of our games in this art and we often made comparisons of our drawings and paintings. I think That should help later!
I got into it seriously when my sister died, more than 20 years ago. It was a trigger, an obvious one. And then several years later there was the death of my husband, this time it was therapy.
Now I paint more serenely and above all I want to share all the emotions that our beautiful nature provides. "
- You have a very aquatic style, sometimes underwater which makes us travel at sea, forest or even in mangrove. What inspires you? Tell us about your world.
"I had two husbands who had a boat. So all the beauties I encountered I kept in memory and often photographed. Most of my paintings are of places I encountered. I still continue to go to sea."

- We discovered your work at the Pool Art Fair (Guadeloupe). Do you have any upcoming exhibitions? What are your main tools?
" I am self-taught. I use the knife and the brush. I only did two exhibitions, the pool Art fair as well as the Fort fleur d'épée. I am thinking of doing another one after the hurricane season in October 2018 .
- Does the Caribbean culture influence you in your works?
"Through my paintings I would like to make the West Indies known. It is a way of campaigning for the preservation of the sea, the fauna and the animals that live there. The Caribbean culture is made up of colors, cheerfulness, kindness and generosity. All my canvases are imbued with it and that's what I like."
- What is the work you are most proud of, and why?
"The work of which I am most proud is "Esprit" (the mangrove). I put a little girl in it (for purity) to remind us that this place is extraordinary and that we must preserve.
It was purchased by the Autonomous Port of Guadeloupe.
Mission accomplished ! The message will get across better in a public place. "
A touching artist, who made us travel the time of an article. It's always a pleasure to share our artistic favorites on Caribeart.
