" The smoke of cane juice seems to float,
when the clouds fly over it…”
(Excerpt from unknown author)
The Zévallos site is unique because it brings together one of the first industrial sugar factories in the Caribbean and a Louisian style house, built around 1850 (selected in 2020 as an emblematic project of Guadeloupe by the Heritage Mission led by Stéphane Bern) .
It is one of the only brick and iron architecture in Guadeloupe. The site extends over almost 2 ha and has a place in oral traditions. It bears witness to the economic development of Guadeloupe and the history of its settlement from the 17th century. Its history is crossed by that of the first settlers and then of the slaves to end with the arrival of the workforce of Indian origin.

"La Case Creole
Covered with shingles, lined with lambrequins,
La Case Créole is beautiful under this lace.
Her slender silhouette stands out from the sky,
This immense veil, of a serene blue.
Sculpted on all sides, shaped with care,
She welcomes her guests without the slightest disdain,
Opening the doors of her sublime garden
To those who know how to hold out their hand.
Sprinkled with jasmines and roses of yesteryear,
She releases her incense at nightfall.
Distrusting bitumen, cyclones and years,
She survives like a dream with lots of love.
And to discover all its intimacy,
Slip silently through its half-open door,
Walk softly on its tamarind parquet
To contemplate all the jewels in its cases. "

I defend my happiness, as one does treasures, against hard looks and noises from outside.
No breath shakes the mimosa on which, while singing, a flock of birds weighed.

"Remains"
She is still there despite the passage of time.
She took on other looks, decked out in red, ocher and ground green.
She stopped to fall asleep in her green abode.
Here the silence and the intoxicating calm have nothing monotonous, because it has become a temple of glory that affects the walker when he finds here the encrusted memory of man.

The box is so proud
Let her take air
To believe in his subject
Tinplate goes hand in hand.
She's raining light
colors of the sun
In the dark ephemeral,
Lunar bursts.
Dress her in a dress
Blazing at its roof
With four sides, the coat
Lace at its eaves.

The surprising beauty of
the hibiscus…
An exotic flower native to Egypt, India and China, the hibiscus amazes us with its dazzling beauty: the wide-open calyx makes us perceive all the shades of color of the flower: a purple red that comes in a deep pink, a bright orange that becomes golden yellow, a bright yellow veined with white..
The flower first seems to us as if rolled up on itself before opening out, then we find it largely offered, with regular contours, gradually it wrinkles and takes on scalloped shapes on the edges, it then makes one think of a folding crepe paper, it finally closes in on itself and returns to its original shape... The heart of the flower itself seems unreal with a starry pistil of small sparkling and luminous sparks...
This Chinese rose stands on its stem and imposes its lofty beauty on us, its sumptuous, wide and magnificent petals... an ephemeral flower, it is all the more beautiful: its fragile splendor quickly fades, and we find ourselves on the ground the scroll of the flower folded in on itself...
From the Malvaceae family, the hibiscus comes from a Greek word: ibiscos which means “marshmallow”. its red flowers are used in Egypt for the preparation of a divine drink "the carcade".
This Egyptian flower transports us to a magical and mysterious world: it takes us to the edge of a dream: we then perceive the green banks of the Nile, the feluccas, the pyramids, the sphynx, the pharaohs, the ancient gods Amon, Baal, Sobek, the lotus flowers...
The hibiscus seems straight out of a fairy tale… so strange and unreal is its beauty, so much does its flower enchant us and transport us to an ideal world…. The abundant foliage, deep green and shiny, enhances the marvelous splendor of this ephemeral rose...

I wanted to drink
at the stream of childhood,
Return to the land of happy memories.
I keep in my heart the image of these places
Like a lucky charm warding off suffering.

Near the bandstand
The children are going to play
Curls in the wind, drop in the nose
They run excited
Two chairs side by side
Memory of a kiss
Remain almost entwined
Ready to start again

"To paint a landscape, it takes disturbing words
Round white pebbles where the water runs,
Quivering bamboos, like a chattering curtain
The atmosphere is zen hushed
like a piece of jazz..."
